Azure Virtual Desktop
Azure Virtual Desktop is Microsoft’s desktop and application virtualization service that runs on Azure, enabling organizations to deliver Windows desktops and RemoteApp applications to users on virtually any device. 
It supports Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows Server experiences, including multisession Windows 11/10, which is unique to Azure Virtual Desktop for scalable and cost‑efficient delivery.
Microsoft manages the control plane, while customers manage session hosts, images, networking, and user experience in their Azure subscription.

Key Capabilities 

  • Host pools (pooled or personal) — organize session hosts into pooled or personal host pools and choose load balancing for pooled scenarios.  
  • Session hosts and image consistency — host pools are made up of session host VMs and are typically sourced from the same image for a consistent experience.  
  • Application groups and workspaces — publish resources via application groups and present them to users through workspaces for discovery and access.  
  • RemoteApp publishing — publish individual apps (RemoteApp) or full desktops from host pools to match business needs.  
  • Autoscale — automatically increase or decrease capacity based on schedules and demand to help manage cost.  
  • RDP Shortpath — establishes a UDP-based transport between client and session host (with TCP fallback) to improve latency consistency and reliability.  
  • Operational insights — use built-in diagnostics and Azure Virtual Desktop Insights to monitor environment health and connection/user issues.
